Campania, Amalfi Coast

Charter a Yacht in Campania and Enjoy Your Holidays

Historically, a part of Magna Græcia, Campania is a region in Southern Italy and the most densely populated region in the country. Its name is derived from the Roman Latin name Campania felix, meaning "fertile countryside". Located on the Italian Peninsula, with the Mediterranean Sea to the west, it includes the small Phlegraean Islands and the famous island of Capri. Four other regions border Campania; Lazio to the northwest, Molise to the north, Apulia (Puglia) to the northeast and Basilicata to the east. The Capital of Campania is Naples, one of the most populated and beautiful cities in Italy, rich in history and natural beauty.

Campania is a great destination for spending your boating holidays, especially because of its beautiful archeological and ancient sites such as Pompeii, Herculaneum, Paestum and Velia, as well as rich natural sights while sailing along the Amalfi Coast, Mount Vesuvius and the island of Capri.

Where to Sail a Yacht in the Campania Region

Campania has a coastline of 350 km on the Tyrrhenian Sea and is famous for its gulfs - Naples, Salerno and Policastro - as well as its three islands - Capri, Ischia and Procida. The climate is typically Mediterranean along the coast.

Close to the coast there are two volcanic massifs near Naples - the world famous volcano the Mount Vesuvius on the South, and supervolcano Campi Flegrei on the North.

Charter a catamaran, sailboat or motor yacht in Naples, Salerno, Procida or Agropoli and enjoy boating and sailing - the most popular sport in the region. The port of Naples connects the region with the whole Mediterranean, including the beautiful coastal areas and the pitoresque islands.

What to Taste on Your Sailing Vacation in Campania

Campanian cuisine varies within the region. Seafood, fresh vegetables and cheeses and Pizza, of course, which originated in Naples, are just some of the dishes you should taste while on your yachting holidays in the region of Campania. Other delicious dishes include Spaghetti - especially popular Spaghetti alla puttanesca - the so-called Russian salad, "gattò" or "gâteau di patate", "insalata di mare" (seafood salad), "zuppa di polpo" (octopus soup), and "zuppa di cozze" (mussel soup), "frittelle di mare" (fritters with seaweed) and other regional seafood dishes. The most popular cheeses of Campania include: Mozzarella di Bufala, fiordilatte, ricotta, provolone from cow milk, and caciotta.

You should not miss the cakes and pies made in Campania, such as Pastiera pie, Casatiello and tortano, Babà (a well known Neapolitan delicacy), Sfogliatella, Zeppole, and Struffoli.
