Ionian Islands (Corfu, Lefkas...)

Sail Around the Ionian Archipelago on Your Next Yachting Holiday

The Ionian Islands are a group of islands located off the west coast of Greece and there are seven main islands you can explore on your sailing vacation around Greece: Corfu; Paxos; Lefkada; Ithaca; Kefalonia; Zakynthos and Kythera. The whole Ionian coast is famous for its beautiful beaches, popular inexpensive restaurants, famous hotels and lively campsites.

Greece is one of the world's favorite sailing destinations and all the main types of yacht charter are available - a variety of motor yachts, sailing yachts, gulets or catamarans throughout the whole sailing season. Marina Gouvia on the island of Corfu or Marina Lefkas on the island of Lefkas are only some of the places in Greece where you can hire a yacht and start your yacting adventure.

The beautiful coast of Epirus is famous for its historic bridges and some of the most popular destinations worth seeing on your sailing vacation. Patras is the major Greek harbour on the Western Peloponnese coast. There are also numerous small, picturesque historic port towns with attractive sights, such as famous castles, fortresses, medieval towns and wonderful pebble beaches.

Discover the Beauties of Lefkas From Aboard Your Boat

Lefkas (also known as Lefkada) is among the most popular Greek yacht charter spots. It is also one of the largest islands in Greece famous for its spectacular and gorgeous beaches, especially the three of them you definitely should not miss while sailing around Greece: Porto Katsiki, famous for its shape and interesting formation of its coastline; Egremni, one of the longest in Lefkas and Kathisma, with an ideal position for sailing and enjoying the fun on the sea. The most important religious center in Lefkas is the Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni, located on a hill above the town. Another interesting sight is Agia Mavra Castle, a beautiful example of fortress architecture.

Explore the Island of Corfu Cruising Around the Ionian Archipelago

Sailing through the northwesternmost part of Greece, you will reach the island of Corfu or Kerkyra, a very popular yachting destination. It is the second largest of the Ionian Islands, including its small satellite islands of Ereikoussa, Mathraki and Othonoi. Corfu is famous of being home to the Ionian University and the Ionian Academy.

The island's history dates back from the beginnings of Greek mythology. Medieval castles, the two of which enclose its capital, are unique to Greece and that is why Corfu's capital has been officially declared a Kastropolis or the "Castle City" by the Greek government. The city's old quarter was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Hop aboard your sailing boat, motor boat, gulet or catamaran, and enjoy the wonders of the Ioanian coast!
